Campus Housing
The University of Canterbury has a small number of fully furnished houses and flats around the boundary of the campus available for rental to Visiting Fellows and Departmental visitors. The properties are all within easy walking distance of all departments.
Please note – these properties were not purpose built. They vary in age, size and style and are generally older bungalow style properties that have been purchased over time from previous owners for future expansion of the University.
The rentals for these properties are market based and the rental rates have been assessed by a Property Management Company outside of the University.
New staff members arriving from overseas taking up permanent appointments, may also be accommodated for a short period while they are looking for suitable rental housing in the private sector. Because of the demand for campus housing the length of stay will not give them sufficient time to purchase a property.
Each rental property is provided with basic furniture including an automatic washing machine, clothes dryer, electric stove, microwave oven, cookware, crockery, cutlery, bed linen and towels. An electric blanket is provided on the main bed only. Baby cots, highchairs and cot linen are available on request. A television set can be easily hired from local firms.
The properties are not serviced during your stay- if you do not like housekeeping you could probably hire a student through Job Search to do these tasks for you.
