About your Canterbury Card
All students enrolled at the University of Canterbury are eligible to apply for a Canterbury Card that is valid for a period of five years. Staff and visitors are issued with Cards that are valid for the term of their contract or visit.
The Canterbury Card is the official student ID for University of Canterbury students. Your Canterbury Card is also your:
- Students' Association membership card
- Library card
- Security card for access to locked areas that you are authorised to enter
- Debit card, when your account is loaded with funds, to pay for:
- Internet and email (ICTS website)
- Printing (ICTS website)
- Photocopying (CEPS website)
- Library charges (fines, interloans)
- Telephone calls
You should carry your Canterbury Card with you whenever you are on campus.

Your username is printed on your Canterbury Card and replaces the temporary one you were given during the enrolment process. Instructions on how to create your password are provided when you collect your Canterbury Card (distance and regional campus students are sent these instructions separately).
